The past 12 months has seen a noticeable turnaround in the valve industry in the UK, with the majority of companies seeing a significant increase in order intake. Adanac is no different, with turnover to date and our current order book being the highest in the company’s history.

What is even more noticeable at Adanac is the dramatic increase in orders for jacketed valves, and encouragingly, a large proportion of these valves are destined for UK production sites. In July and August of this year we manufactured 69 jackets fitted to a range of Stainless Steel ball valves for one specific customer alone, and in September and October we shipped a further 45 valves with either full or partial jackets. And it doesn’t stop there. We also have orders for a further 175 valves with heating jackets for delivery through November, December and January.

It has been noticeable that a specific range and type of valves have required jackets. The vast majority of jacketed valves that we have supplied recently are Ball valves but we are also seeing significant orders to jacket ‘Y type’ Strainers, Gate, Relief, Check, Butterfly and Plug valves. With every type of jacket differing in design, the Adanac design office has been challenged significantly in recent months. But as expected they have risen to the occasion with great success to meet the demands of our production department by producing jacket designs in a timely fashion. This has enabled Adanac to achieve our promised delivery times and ultimately keep our customers satisfied. In addition, many of our customers are insisting upon weld procedures to ASME IX, so our design department is not the only area being kept on their toes. Adanac’s welders have also been met with substantial pressure to meet delivery demands, but we never compromise on the quality of our finished product. Due to this recent demand Adanac is taking the step to qualify additional welders to meet the requirements of ASME IX which will increase our welding capacity and reinforces our commitment to invest in our staff.

Heating jackets are used in a variety of applications where the process temperature needs to be maintained to keep the media fluid. Certain substances can solidify when temperatures drop, often there is potential for the media to be trapped within a closed valve, so the heating jacket can be vital to prevent this from happening. Heating jacket applications include the production of Chocolate, Sulphur recovery, Pharmaceutical and Fertiliser Products.

Adanac can manufacture both partially and fully jacketed valves. The fully jacketed valves, generally intended for installation in jacketed pipework systems where continuous process heating is required. The valves can be oversize flanged, wafer pattern or butt weld in design. Adanac’s partial heating jacket design generally covers the area around the seats while leaving access to the existing valve end connectors. The jacket itself can be fully welded to the valve where the outer wall of the valve becomes the inner wall of the heating chamber. Clamp-on type jackets are another method of heating a valve, allowing for easy replacement of the valve without the need to replace the heating jacket. Adanac’s ‘Flexi-Jacket’ provides the perfect solution for jacketing low-cost 3-pce ball valves. Adanac Heating Jackets are suitable for a variety of heating media such as hot water, steam or hot oil and can be provided with various jacket connection options, Adanac’s standard being threaded, but flanged, socket weld and butt weld are also available.

This increase in demand for jacketed valves has coincided with a number of large orders for cryogenic valves which keeps our design office and welders very busy, but long may it last! Hopefully this recent investment in UK production sites signals the start of a return of confidence in the UK economy.
