Hot Spot Approval to Publish ISO 5117 Automatic Steam Traps- Production and Performance Tests

What is it?

A new standard ISO 5117 Automatic steam traps — Production and performance characteristic tests has passed its final vote and will shortly be published by ISO/TC153 and also by CEN TC69 as a parallel EN standard.

This document specifies the production and performance relevant test requirements for automatic steam traps used for condensate removal/recovery services for optimized utilization of energy in a variety of industrial applications. It addresses the requirements for production testing and performance testing of steam traps, including shell integrity and a performance type test.

Why is it Important?

Currently the test requirements for automatic steam traps are mostly driven by the manufacturer or end users and each may have their own specification. This new document is intended to create a common understanding on the qualifications, and end-user total cost-of-ownership by eliminating unintentional design flaws and planned obsolescence. The ultimate aim being to improve performance and safety by enabling any customer to specify durable type-tested industrial valves.

Supersedes

This document cancels and replaces ISO 6948:1981, ISO 7841:1988 and ISO 7842:1988 by merging the requirements of these standards into a single updated document.
