Chase The Sun 2019 charity bike ride
Preparations are well under way for Advanced Valve Solutions, who are taking part in a bicycle ride, from Sheerness in Kent to Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset, just south of Weston-Super-Mare.
The idea of ‘Chase The Sun’ is to start cycling at sunrise on the longest day of the year (it will feel more like the shortest night for the participants!) in the east, and cycle throughout the day to try and beat the sunset on the west coast at Burnham-on-Sea.
This allows 16 hours and 50 minutes to complete the 205 mile / 330 kilometre ride and be very well acquainted with our saddles. See www.chasethesun.org for details of the ride.
Of course, being a group of mostly engineers, there has been some meticulously detailed planning, including calorie intake required, hydration requirement, the essential items to be carried whilst keeping the weight to a minimum.
A couple of the riders have helpfully purchased the latest Good Beer Guide, though this is only going to be required in the event of a major mechanical failure, or so we are told!
Advanced Valve Solutions have 5 employees – Alex Jackson, Yannick Kienstra, Cor Pauws, Merijn Reus and Martin Strom – and some additional friends, who are doing the ride in aid of the Child Poverty Action Group.
It was decided to do the ride in aid of a worthwhile charity raise some money for a good cause, and to try to aid the focus of the group, especially towards the end of the ride when the distance will start to bite.
Child Poverty Action Group - works on behalf of the more than one in four children in the UK growing up in poverty. It doesn’t have to be like this.
Using its understanding of what causes poverty and the impact it has on children’s lives, CPAG campaigns for policies that will prevent and solve poverty – for good.
The charity provides training, advice and information to make sure low-income families get the financial support they need and carries out high-profile legal work to establish and protect families’ rights.
Advanced Vale Solutions would be delighted to receive any kind donations to the charity, via their JustGiving page:

All donations, no matter how small, are greatly appreciated, thank you. The JustGiving page stays live for donations for a few weeks after the event, so please consider making a donation even if after the event.
We will do an update article after the ride, or at least any of the survivors will! If we all enjoy it as much as we are hoping to, and anyone wishes to join us next year, please let us know.
