The Why, What, Where & How of Hydrogen Tackling climate change is the largest challenge facing humanity today, and that will largely be achieved by decarbonising the energy sector. Hydrogen is set to play a key role in the transition to clean energy. In this session, David Watson will set out the scale of the challenge, how hydrogen will play a role and what we can expect as the change unfolds. Speaker: David Watson, Head of Energy Transition, Cadent |
The Practical Challenges of Handling Hydrogen Hydrogen is great, it has a very low ignition energy, it is flammable over a very wide range, it is obviously colourless, odourless, and has a very low density. Easy to handle right? The only saving grace is the how quickly is disperses when accidentally released. Within this session we will explore the routes leading members of the field are utilising new liquification, compression and storage mediums to overcome hydrogen’s challenging nature. We’ll also be discussing the options for the H2-ammonia economy. Speaker: Prof. John Oakey, Professor of Energy Technology, Cranfield University |
Bringing The Hydrogen Dream into Reality The UK Government has set the ambitious target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050, in order to meet this, hydrogen has been identified as one of the major enablers to decarbonise UK industry and its transport sector. This presentation will share Stopford’s recent experience gained from the BEIS funded Fuel Switching projects to replace natural gas with hydrogen, identifying the safety and engineering considerations and focusing on how trade organisations such as the BVAA can help facilitate the transition to a low carbon economy. Speaker: Debnath Pal, Director, Stopford |
Testing Materials in Hydrogen TWI has been examining the effects of hydrogen on materials and particularly welds for over 75 years. This presentation will cover some of the testing techniques and equipment employed at TWI to examine the effects of gaseous hydrogen on both metals and polymers. Speaker: Andrew Leonard, Consultant, TWI Ltd |
JIP33 – Adding Value Through Standardisation As JIP33 approaches its 50th specification published after 5 years of development, we will discuss a valve supplier case study on cost and schedule impacts of JIP33 standardized procurement requirements. There will be a review JIP33 valve and actuator related activity plans for 2022 and into 2023, adoption rates for these specifications and how JIP33 specifications are being operationalised through an Equipment Hub. Speaker: David Harris, Manager – JIP33 Published Specifications, International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) |
Energy Transition in Action How as the regulator we are stewarding the UKCS towards a sustainable future in accordance with North Sea Transition Deal towards 2050 net zero target and low carbon future. Speaker: Bill Cattanach OBE, Head of Supply Chain, North Sea Transition Authority |
