In Aberdeen, from 5-8 September, SPE Offshore Europe will celebrate 50 years since the first edition, then called Offshore Scotland, was held at Aberdeen University. The organisers couldn’t have foreseen how their original concept, hosted in the car park of the chemistry department with 70 exhibitors, would grow to become the SPE Offshore Europe of today; designed by the industry for the industry as it transitions to provide a sustainable energy future for the next 50 years and beyond.

At P&J Live in Aberdeen in September 2023, tens of thousands of offshore industry professionals will gather to do business together and share ideas, knowledge and technologies. As you would expect, the energy transition is playing a more important and bigger role this year. The energy transition theatre is returning, and a brand new energy transition zone will host leading companies and technology providers as they share content, knowledge and the technologies that will accelerate our lower carbon future.

A new offshore wind theatre will discuss the role of offshore wind in the changing energy landscape and a hydrogen hub, sponsored by ABB, will showcase hydrogen technology helping us to accelerate to a cleaner energy future.

The 2023 conference, curated by SPE (the Society of Petroleum Engineers), is themed ‘Securing sustainable and equitable energy for the next 50 years and beyond’.  Strategic keynote and technical programmes will cover the four key topics of energy security, energy transition, innovative technology and future talent.

Show floor features and the conference programme will also tackle the people and skills needed to work alongside the technologies to deliver the energy transition. New this year, the future talent hub will look at the skills, talent and approaches needed to make sure we attract, retain and develop the people who will manage our energy future.

Jonathan Heastie, Portfolio Director – Energy & Marine at RX (Reed Exhibitions), co-organiser with SPE said: “SPE Offshore Europe has been championing North Sea leadership, technology and innovation for 50 years.  The event in September will look to the future as the industry evolves to provide secure, sustainable energy for the next 50 years and beyond.”

SPE Offshore Europe, including the conference programme, is free to attend. Attendees and exhibitors are invited to share their Offshore Europe stories and memories online at https://bit.ly/3CaPAa0 or on social channels with #50YearsOfOE.
