What is it?

The second edition of IOGP JIP33 specification S-715 published in the form of an overlay of NORSOK M-501:2022 has been launched for public review. IOGP is inviting suppliers of Offshore, Marine Coastal & Subsea Environments (NORSOK) coatings and painting to review the draft 1.1 version of the specification for comment.

The IOGP S-715 specification documents follow a common structure comprising a technical requirements specification (TRS), a procurement data sheet (PDS), an information requirements specification (IRS) and a quality requirements specification (QRS). These four specification documents, together with the purchase order, define the overall technical specification for procurement.

The specifications can be found by following this link S-715 - Surface Preparation and Protective Coatings (NORSOK) launched for public review - JIP33 (iogp-jip33.org). The deadline for comments to be received is 23/06/2024.

Why is it Important?

The International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) is the voice of the global upstream industry with 83 members including the 12 major global operators. JIP33 is an IOGP joint industry project aimed at industry wide standardisation and cost reduction of the equipment supply chain.

The purpose of the IOGP S-715 specification documents is to define a minimum common set of requirements for surface preparation and the procurement of protective coatings in accordance with NORSOK M-501:2022, Surface Preparation and Protective Coatings, for application in the petroleum and natural gas industries.

The supply of equipment coated or painted to NORSOK specifications is often an expensive process in terms of production inspection and documentation costs. This review represents an opportunity to comment to the IOGP JIP33 project team if it is considered that the new draft revision contains errors or omissions or could result in unnecessary cost increases within the supply chain.
