Ultravalve Supports World Earth Day
With a Focus on Sustainable Engineering
In support of World Earth Day, Midlands-based valve distributor Ultravalve Ltd is highlighting its commitment to environmental responsibility through innovation, partnerships, and real-world application. As part of the Bonomi Group, Ultravalve supplies high-performance valve and actuator solutions across a range of sectors, and works closely with manufacturing partners who share its sustainability goals.
Valves are often unsung heroes in the push for energy efficiency and resource conservation. From reducing energy consumption through precise flow control to helping eliminate leaks and supporting water-saving initiatives in utilities and wastewater management, Ultravalve’s solutions contribute significantly to sustainable operations.
Supporting Climate Research in the Field
One of Ultravalve’s most notable contributions to sustainability lies in its long-standing partnership with the University of Birmingham’s BIFoR FACE (Free-Air Carbon Enrichment) project. Now in its eighth year, this pioneering research initiative is investigating the effects of elevated atmospheric CO₂ on mature woodland ecosystems.
Ultravalve supplied over 200 butterfly valves and Valbia electric actuators to control the precise delivery of CO₂ across forest plots. Despite being exposed to challenging outdoor conditions, the valves have demonstrated exceptional durability—with only one replacement required over the full span of the project. This reliability has enabled uninterrupted data collection, contributing to vital climate science and carbon sequestration modelling.
Innovation Through Manufacturing Partnerships
Ultravalve benefits from strong relationships with leading European valve manufacturers who are equally committed to sustainable practices.
Mondeo, specialists in hydraulic components, are focused on reducing the environmental impact of production. Their stainless steel valve systems are designed for optimal hydraulic efficiency and can deliver up to 20% energy savings when used in combination. Additionally, Mondeo has taken significant steps to lower its operational emissions—recently replacing its gas heating system with an electric heat pump setup, which is expected to reduce CO₂ output by 8.5 tonnes annually.
Another key partner, Vexve, is a major European supplier of valve solutions for energy infrastructure and energy-intensive sectors. With corporate sustainability guiding its business model, Vexve is committed to delivering durable, high-quality products while ensuring environmental and social responsibility throughout its operations.
Vexve’s use of independently verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) is a testament to this approach. These documents, based on international LCA standards such as ISO 14025 and EN 15804, provide a transparent view of each product’s environmental impact—supporting carbon reduction strategies and contributing to recognised sustainability certifications like LEED and BREEAM.
A Long-Term Commitment to the Planet
Through trusted partnerships and a continued focus on high-performance, low-impact solutions, Ultravalve supports energy-conscious customers and environmental research, helping to build a more sustainable future—one valve at a time.
