Valveuser Issue One – Asco Article
By Mike Howells, Marketing Manager, Process EMEA, Emerson Automation Fluid Control & Pneumatics UK Ltd.
In Spring of 2007 Valveuser Magazine was first published, the average pint was £2.62, Gallon of petrol under £4, Brent oil $73 a barrel and I was a Market Manager for Asco Joucomatic, nearly 10 years working for a division of Emerson.
At the time, the BVAA membership consisted of approx. 70 members, nine were what is now part of the Emerson Group. That same year I attended my first BVAA training session – Introduction to Valves – and this was my first memories of the BVAA team who have since becomes friends, not colleagues.
In the very first issue of Valveuser, an Asco article introduced our then new 342 Stainless Regulator range, which we still offer today, although a few generations and designs later…
Over the next 18 years, and 100 issues, Valveuser magazine has not only been an effective channel through which Emerson communicates its news, product launches and developments, but also the many occasions we have worked with, and been actively involved with the association.
Emerson has donated products to assist in training, and the BVAA team and I, have attended numerous exhibitions and BVAA events, including Offshore Europe, Valve World, CHEMUK and desktop exhibitions. Many great times have been had with members, and BVAA staff past and present.
The BVAA is a great asset to our industry, and importantly, is helping shape the future. It is a great source for education, knowledge, changing standards to suit the industry, and many useful reports. BVAA is investing in in the industry’s future, with initiatives such as the Future Leaders Programme, and helping drive the industry in the right direction.
If anyone is thinking of investing in a trade association, I would highly recommend the BVAA. In my 30 years in the industry, the BVAA has always been a strong ally in growing our business and informing our industry of new innovations, not just for Emerson but all the members they serve.
We’re proud to help the BVAA team mark this special 100th Anniversary!
