Clifford Springs turns 80!

80 years ago, our managing director’s grandfather, Theodore Clifford, co-founded The Baycliff Spring Company. As the years went by, and a new generation of Cliffords took over the business, it was renamed Clifford Springs in 1957. 

John Clifford started working in the business in 1989 and became Managing Director in 1995. The third generation of Cliffords to run the business, it’s John and his brother Robert who we have to thank for the innovative business that we know today. 

A spring is not just a spring, and John has always known that. The physics, engineering and technical expertise that lies behind spring design and manufacture is something that John is passionate about.  

As industry has got more complex, so have springs. Clifford Springs has continually invested keeping up. New, larger premises, the latest in spring making technology, continual training for team members, constant knowledge updates, and an ongoing focus on innovation is behind Clifford Spring’s continued growth and contribution to the UK spring industry. 

With no fourth generation of Cliffords to take over the reins, the business was bought by Lesjöfors in 2024, ensuring its continued success. John continues to run the business with the same client focus and attention to detail, but with more client solutions on offer from our worldwide sister companies.  

It’s very much a Happy Birthday to us, this year. We look back on the innovation and dedication of all of our team members that have contributed to our success and longevity, and look forward to the next 80 years with excitement. The industry we serve is constantly moving forward, and we will too.
