Heap & Partners - Responding to a Gap in the Market

With the Development of the Phase Triple Offset Butterfly Valve

Triple offset butterfly valves occupy a critical position in industrial isolation duties, particularly where tight shut-off, reliability and long service life are non-negotiable. In recent years, however, the withdrawal of several long-established brands from this sector has left many operators facing limited choice, extended lead times and growing concerns around long-term support.

Against this backdrop, Heap & Partners have developed a new Triple Offset Butterfly Valve designed specifically to meet the needs of modern critical-service applications. The valve builds on the company’s long-standing experience in manufacturing valves for demanding sectors including nuclear, oil and gas, power generation and pharmaceutical processing.

Developed in Collaboration with End Users

Rather than pursuing a theoretical design exercise, the development programme began with customers. Existing users of triple offset butterfly valves were consulted to understand where current market offerings fell short—whether in performance, maintainability, availability or lifecycle cost. Those discussions directly informed the design brief.

The first prototype was manufactured and tested with notable results: it worked first time. This provided a strong technical foundation, but the process did not stop there. Further refinements were introduced based on customer feedback and practical manufacturing considerations, ensuring the final design was not only robust in service but efficient to produce consistently and at scale.

Part of a Broader British-Made Valve Portfolio

The new Triple Offset Butterfly Valve complements the wider Phase product range, which includes trunnion-mounted ball valves, diaphragm valves, check valves and air distribution manifolds. All are manufactured in Great Britain, reflecting a continued commitment to domestic engineering capability and supply chain resilience.

This launch is particularly significant as the business marks its 160th year of operation - an uncommon milestone in industrial manufacturing, and one that underscores long-term focus rather than short-term market participation.

Applications Across Demanding Industries

The Phase Triple Offset Butterfly Valve is intended for use wherever isolation performance cannot be compromised. Typical applications include oil and gas, petrochemical and chemical processing, power generation, LNG and cryogenic service, nuclear, steam systems, pipelines and terminals, as well as heavy industrial sectors such as mining, steel, pulp and paper, and water infrastructure.

A Practical Response to Market Need

In developing this valve, Heap & Partners has taken a pragmatic approach: identify a genuine gap in the market, work directly with customers, and deliver a product engineered for performance, maintainability and longevity. The result is not a reinvention of the triple offset butterfly valve, but a carefully considered evolution—designed to give operators confidence in every cycle.
