Hot Spot CD Ballot ISO 23632 Design Validation Testing of Valves

What is it?

ISO/TC153 has launched the attached ISO CD 23632 Design validation testing of valves for ballot. This standard specifies the requirements and test methods for evaluating the performance of industrial valves in a type test. This committee draft extends the scope of the current standard, making it applicable to both linear and rotary valve types and introducing external leakage testing requirements.

Members were asked if they had any comments on the attached document, to contact the BVAA secretariat by 08/05/26 so that they can be considered and submitted by BVAA to BSI.

Why is it Important?

ISO 23632 was first published in 2021 as a type testing standard that provided a standardised test framework that could be used across all types, sizes and pressure ratings of rotary valves. Following publication, the standard has been successfully adopted as a requirement by several end users such as Shell and Aramco.

This new revision aims to extend the scope of the standard to make it applicable to linear valve validation tests as well as to rotary products. In response to requests from end users, the draft now includes external leakage test measurements in order to validate the performance and sealing of the valve shell.

Any comments received from BVAA members will be reviewed and considered in the submission to BSI PSE/18/1 as part of the UK response to ISO/TC153 WG 17. If a large number of comments are received from members, the BVAA will arrange an online meeting to review and agree the final submission to BSI.
