Hot Spot EN 593 Metallic Butterfly Valves Final Ballot Approval

What is it?
EN 593 Metallic butterfly valves has now completed the final ballot process with only minor editorial comments and unanimous approval. The scope of the standard covers metallic butterfly valves with pressure ratings from Class 150-Class 900 (PN 2.5-PN 160) and sizes DN 20-DN 4000.
The standard will now be ratified by CEN, published and made available from the usual sources in the next few weeks. EN 593:2026 will also need to be cited in the European Journal and declared as a Designated Standard by the UK Government before it formerly attains harmonised/designated status, this can typically take around 12 months or more to be completed.
Why is it Important?
This standard covers the majority of metallic butterfly valve designs, and it is also intended to be a harmonised standard to the PED allowing members to demonstrate their compliance with both the PED and PE(S)R by following its requirements.
EN 593 is the first CEN valve product standard to adopt a new format referencing the requirements of the latest revision of EN 16668 in order to comply with the PED. This layout is also being adopted for all future EN valve product standards. Consequently, it is important that BVAA members who wish to continue to supply butterfly valves into the UK and EU markets review their products to ensure compliance with this standard.
Supersedes
EN 593:2017 Metallic Butterfly Valves.
