PED Guidance: A New Member Resource

One of the BVAA’s greatest strengths has always been the willingness of members to share knowledge and help each other navigate complex technical and regulatory challenges.  It is this collaborative spirit that has led to the launch of a new online BVAA PED Guidelines resource, available exclusively to BVAA members through the Members’ Area of the Association website, www.bvaa.org.uk

Many long-standing members will remember the Green A5 booklet, Guidelines on the Interpretation of the Pressure Equipment Directive, produced by the BVAA when the PED was first introduced.  That publication provided valuable support to the industry, but as regulations, products and customer expectations have evolved, so too has the need for more detailed guidance on specific topics.

The new PED Guidelines website has been developed in a practical Q&A format, similar to the well-known EU PED Guidelines, but with a clear focus on issues affecting valve and actuator manufacturers, suppliers and users.  Drawing on industry experience, it provides pragmatic guidance, background notes and links to relevant European guidance where appropriate.

Importantly, this is not a static publication.  The intention is for the resource to evolve over time, with additional questions, revised guidance, example documents and best-practice recommendations added as members identify new areas of interest.

The PED site is a member-only benefit.  Like much of what we do, it has been created by BVAA members, using their collective expertise and experience, for the benefit of fellow members.  We therefore ask users to respect the confidentiality of the information and to not share content outside the membership.

The launch of this resource is another example of the practical value that BVAA membership delivers.  Alongside technical support, standards representation, legislative advocacy, market intelligence, training and networking opportunities, members gain access to specialist knowledge that would be difficult and costly to obtain elsewhere.
