Application and media

Different gases, liquids and chemicals will impact seals and their components differently.  Knowledge of the operating environment helps us recommend solutions that can improve long term compatibility and reliability. 

Operating temperature and pressure

Pressure and temperature are key when it comes to springs.  A spring performing well at room temperature may behave very differently in cryogenic or extremely hot temperatures, and changes in pressure will impact the sealing force required.  Different spring types or materials may offer improved performance. 

Space and assembly constraints

The dimensions of the space where the spring will be installed can impact its performance.  Highlighting this early creates opportunities to discuss alternative spring types or materials that may perform better. 

Seal material

We developed the PEEK™ energising spring in direct response to a customer issue where a traditional Alloy 600 spring was mating with the hardware.  Different spring types and materials can ensure this wear doesn’t happen. 

Service life

If we know how long a component is expected to last, and how it will be used, we can provide advice on any potential opportunities to improve durability and long term performance, whether that’s changing spring type, material or even treatments.
