Howco Secures Cyber Essentials Certification Amid Aerospace Expansion

Howco Group, a global distributor and processor of high-performance alloys and manufacturer of precision components, has been awarded the Cyber Essentials certification, assessed by LANDR and issued under the IASME / Cyber Essentials scheme, in recognition of its approach to cyber security. The award comes as part of Howco’s continuous investment in its customer relationships and expansion into the aerospace sector. 

Cyber Essentials is a government-backed scheme which provides an industry-recognised assurance that the certificate holder maintains appropriate cyber security controls and has a reduced likelihood of experiencing a costly, disruptive cyber security incident. The certification requires specific technical controls are in place to protect against cyber attacks including appropriate firewalls, user access control and malware protection.   

Being Cyber Essentials certified is an increasingly common prerequisite in the supply chain and procurement process, particularly within the high-risk sectors that Howco serves. Holding the certification is often a mandatory requirement for government, public sector, and defence contractors and subcontractors. In other segments, including aerospace, manufacturing and energy, it’s also a common specification as security obligations are pushed down through the entire supply chain.

According to the Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2025/2026 just 24% of UK businesses currently report having the technical controls associated with Cyber Essentials in place. The report, which was commissioned by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and the Home Office estimates that around 267,000 UK businesses have fallen victim to cybercrime at least once in the last year.
