Valve & Pipeline Services: Our Engineering Team – More than just Welders!

Like most in our industry, at Valve and Pipeline Services we have an engineering team.

What do they do?

Fix things, fabricate things, weld things – who would know? Afterall they plod on day-by-day in their own fabrication shop.

Well our boys are more than just engineers – they are problem solvers and as problem solvers our sales increase. How?

A well known, prestigious client had an issue on two 42” Guest & Chrimes Gate Valves. As is often the case a contractor had tried to release the valve and broken the gearbox and scarpered. It was clear that there was pressure in fact the water was flowing at 6 bar and our client could not isolate. Still they wanted us to determine exactly what position and condition the valve was in.

Now like some we have a rigid endoscope which operates with 90 degree direction view, 55 degree field view and 105 degree forward view. All views are recorded so we can leave the client with detailed pictures and data. The thing is – how do we get it in the valve?

Our Engineering Director got on his drawing board and within days a simple yet effective solution was designed, manufactured, tested on a mock-up valve under pressure and enabled us to drill and scope WITHOUT getting wet !! All this up to a flow of 16 bar.

Thanks to the engineering team we can now determine valve position, flow, internal status and conditions, spindle condition, thrust nut or sealing face condition, seat damage, isolation or pass,  determine the unknown valve key operation direction for future operation AND remain dry in the process. All this carried out under pressure with no water quality issue supporting grid resilience and supply.

The client was so happy having never seen a ‘drill and scope’ process carried out in this way. Suddenly our name was banded around their internal online notice board and ever since the phone has not stopped ringing.

At Valve and Pipeline Services we are all a team and as now proven our so called ‘welders’ help our Sales! We feel privileged to have them and hope that all Precision Engineers are as well regarded as the Sales teams out there – just like ours!
