Pressure Tech: A Comment From The MD

If I was to compare 2020 to anything it would be the outward bound journey of Surfboat racing best known in parts of Australia and New Zealand where teams have to row against breaking waves to reach a point and then return to shore in the quickest time. Although, why anyone would want to return ‘to the shoreline of 2020’ would be questionable – unless you’re in the hand sanitiser or face mask business!

The crew on the Surfboats have the challenge of breaking through the turbulent waters using power, positioning, and timing to avoid being swamped or capsizing the vessel they are in. Our approach to taking on the wave of disruption from the COVID pandemic has been a similar strategy.

We’ve added strength to our sales team with a new Sales Manager, and a Regional Sales Manager recently appointed in Singapore to focus on the Asia Pacific region. We’ve changed our Authorised Resellers in a number of key regions with stronger presence now in place with local partners. Our sales strategy, like many other businesses, has adapted to ‘virtual selling’ via Zoom and MS Teams, which has actually proved to be very effective and efficient use of time for all parties.

We continue to position the business towards the Hydrogen Fuel Cell and Subsea markets, where we have seen phenomenal growth over the past 12 months. Two additional members have been added to the Engineering team to develop and extend the range of pressure regulators into these markets, with numerous approvals to the relevant standards expected to be in place by Spring 2021.

The combined strength of the complete team here at Pressure Tech and positioning of the business towards new opportunities has ensured we cleared through the disruptive waters of 2020. However, we have to keep this pace moving into 2021, especially as we are unsure what further turbulence is on the other side of this year! Ultimately, there will be calmer waters and much faster progress can be made in the medium term. In the meantime, the year-end holiday and time with our families (where permitted!) is a welcome break for many, and allows us to truly appreciate where our priorities lie.

Stay safe, have a relaxing holiday and best wishes for 2021.
