Drallim Industries Ltd: The Rotary Selector Valve
The legendary Rotary Selector Valve (RSV) on which the company was founded remains a product that continues to be demanded today, spearheading the contracts won through the Industrial Division including the recent manufacture of a complete suite of electro-pneumatic control panels for a nuclear power station application.
Single acting actuators (for instance those which spring return when the electrical signal is removed and hence no pressure is supplied to move the actuator) are controlled by a single pneumatic signal. The rotary selector valve is a multiport, multibank rotary poppet valve system for use in small bore piping systems. It is suitable for air, gases, vapours and other liquids at pressures from -1bar to 10bar. It is, based on a modular design configurable for a multitude of applications with fluid temperature - 40°C to+ 85°C. It is available in Brass and Stainless Steel, with Fluoro-Elastomer Seals and PTFE or ACETAL Resin Stems, depending on the nature of the fluid or gas being used.
Each rotary selector valve bank is pneumatically independent but linked by a common central spindle, enabling separate air paths to be controlled concurrently; each output is effectively a valve. can incorporate an integral electrical rotary switch which allows fluid and electrical circuits to be controlled simultaneously and show positional indication remotely at the control centre.
It is widely used in industry for a vast range of applications involving the switching of liquids, vapours and gases. Probably the simplest application is as a diverter valve, where it’s cross port sealing integrity, especially at lower temperature is far superior to that of an equivalent ball valve.
therefore be bypassed using a single bank RSV having one air path through. Double acting valves that require one side to be pressurised whilst the other vented side is piped away employ a 2-bank valve. Multiple actuators can be controlled by a single RSV having up to six separate banks. These valves have also been used extensively in solenoid testing applications where they provide a simple yet highly reliable manual bypass system.
