Pressure Tech: Going Through the Workshop
These steam heater sheaths were machined in 316 Stainless Steel on our 9-axis Miyano CNC machine earlier this month.
The sheaths are installed in the bodies of our steam-heated regulators, and are designed to produce a longer flow path that increases the time the media remains heated as it passes through the regulator.
With a twin-spindle and twin-turret design, the Miyano is capable of machining the hex with 1/4" and 1/8" FNPT entries, plus the helix flute and 1/2" MNPT thread, simultaneously. This improves cycle times by a huge 50%!
The tolerance on the diameter of the helix and the internal bore of the regulator body is tightly controlled. We utilise a bespoke tool and form insert to ensure the helix is formed correctly and also, to ensure it leaves the machine burr-free.
We also machine our steam heater sheaths in alternative materials such as Monel-K500.
