BVAA Hot Spot IOGP JIP33 S-611 Gate Valve Specification Launched for Review

What is it?

The IOGP JIP33 specification S-611 for gate valves was first issued in May 2019. It is now undergoing a review process and is available for public comment with a closing date of 16-5-2020. The purpose of this user feedback review is to provide a chance for purchasers and suppliers to comment on how the current S-611 specification can be improved. During the revision process, the document will be updated in accordance with the minimum common set of specification requirements for the procurement of Gate Valves to API Standard 600, Fourteenth Edition which is currently under revision, and API Standard 603, Ninth Edition 2018, for application in the petroleum and natural gas industries.

Why is it Important?

The International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) is the voice of the global upstream industry with 83 members including the major operators. JIP33 is an IOGP joint industry project aimed at industry wide standardisation and cost reduction of the equipment supply chain. It is intended that this revised specification will be adopted as standard by IOGP members, affecting the future supply of thousands of valves to the upstream oil and gas industry.

Therefore, it is important that BVAA members who are gate valve manufacturers to API 600 and API 603 make their voice heard to ensure that the specifications are effective at meeting the needs of the valve manufacturers as well as the end users.

The current S-611 Gate Valves specification is extensive and contains numerous revised and additional requirements to those specified in API 600 and API 603. Including 7 new appendices covering packing, fugitive emissions testing, inspection and testing requirements, documentation and installation.

Now is your opportunity to comment on the current specification and propose changes to improve the effectiveness of the new revision. Please submit your comments on these documents to the BVAA as soon as possible to allow us to pass them on to IOGP reflecting the views of the UK valve industry.
