Hot Spot - JIP33 S-562 Supplementary Requirements for API 6D Trunnion Mounted Ball Valves User Feedback Review

What is it?

IOGP JIP33 is requesting user feedback on S-562 Supplementary Requirements for API 6D Trunnion Mounted Ball Valves. The purpose of this specification is to define a minimum common set of supplementary requirements for the procurement of trunnion mounted ball valves, for application in the petroleum and natural gas industries.

This feedback review is the first step in the revision process of the current specifications and is a chance for members to comment on how the current specification requirements can be improved. This review has been prompted by the need to start working on a revision of the existing S-562 version 3 specification when the revised API 6D 25th edition is published shortly.

Following this user review the specification documents will be updated in accordance with the requirements of API 6D 25th edition and the minimum set of common specification requirements agreed by the JIP 33 project members.

The S-562 version 3 specifications are available for review with a closing date of 23rd November 2021. Copies are attached but can also be downloaded from the IOGP JIP33 website at S-562 Ball Valves (API 6D) Instructions on providing feedback using the JAMA system can be found on the JIP33 Specification Development page.

Why is it Important?

The specification is important because it includes supplementary requirements for API 6D Trunnion Mounted Ball Valves that will be adopted by 12 of the major operators in the oil and gas industry. This review is an opportunity to provide comments to JIP33 on the existing S-562 Ball Valves version 3 specification.

It is important that BVAA members who manufacture these products make their comments to allow them to be taken into consideration by the project team as they plan the content of the forthcoming revision of S-562 following publication of the new API 6D 25th edition requirements. This will ensure that any issues with the current requirements, or proposals for changes, are communicated to the project team for consideration at an early stage in the review process.
