Hot Spot - API Webinar on Newly Published API 6D Specification for Valves 25th edition

What is it?

API has published the 25th edition of its 6D Standard giving it a revised name- Specification for Valves. This specification defines the requirements for design manufacturing, materials, welding, quality control, assembly, testing, marking, documentation and process controls of axial, ball, check, gate, plug valves for application in the petroleum and natural gas industries.

API is hosting a free webinar presented by Ed Edgar, Co-chair of the API 6D workgroup, to introduce the significant differences between the 24th and 25th editions of the specification. The webinar will be held on 3rd February 2022 at 2:30pm UK time, please register by following www.APILearning.org

Why is it Important?

API 6D is the main API specification covering requirements for the design and manufacture of many types of valves for upstream service. The new retitled 25th edition has a more generalised title, dropping the previous references to pipeline or piping valves. The webinar on 3rd February 2022 will present more details on the significant changes made which cover the following areas:

  • Reorganization of the specification requirements
  • Addition of axial valves to the types of valves covered by this specification
  • Removal of Class 400 as a standard pressure class
  • Required conformance to API 6DX for valves supplied with actuators
  • Allowable adjustments for sub-size impact specimens
  • New minimum heat treatment requirements
  • New minimum bolting requirements
  • Revised marking requirements
  • Providing updated design validation guidance
  • New requirements for repair and remanufacture of valves from API 6DR in new Annex A
  • Review of the new annexes

The new API 6D 25th edition is now available to purchase from API and this free webinar provides a good opportunity to receive an overview of the changes included in the new edition from those involved in developing it.
