BVAA Mentimeter Results

First Tranche…

At the recent AGM we devoted one of the presentation slots to some instant-feedback polls via Mentimeter. While there was only a few dozen of our 180 members in the room, the results and the member-perceptions they revealed were nevertheless pretty illuminating.

We thought we’d bring the results to you in bite-size pieces…

Staff Levels:

Three quarters of respondents over-estimated the BVAA full-time staff headcount. Members can be pretty demanding over a very broad swathe of subject areas, so it’s reassuring that members perceive the team here is bigger than it is in reality. The low headcount is in fact quite a handicap at times and the firm view here is that it is in fact too low to cover all the many varied topics with which the members need assistance.

Subs:

Practically every respondent thought our subscriptions represented ‘Good Value for Money’, but the majority thought they had risen in real terms (ie taking into account inflation). The average BVAA sub in 2003 was £2.7k. 18 years later it’s almost exactly the same amount!  OK it’s a crude measure, but C.43% of accumulated inflation experienced nationally since 2003 has not been passed on in the average member’s subs, and yet we’re delivering much more within the subs fee…

Services:

We cited 5 major and popular services and asked members which they thought we ran at a loss. Again a surprising range of responses, but the correct answer was in fact ‘all of them.’

‘Loss’ is an emotive word but this is what the Subs are used to provide - valuable services that members like, which otherwise would be unpalatable if we passed on the full cost.  Similarly on the theme of ‘what does BVAA add to your business?’ - opinions were very diverse - representing the diverse make-up of the room and indeed the Association. We’re providing a wide variety of services to a population comprising very different companies with starkly different needs.
