Hot Spot IOGP JIP33 Publication of S-729 Specification for Control Valves

What is it?

IOGP JIP33 have released a new specification S-729 Specification for Control Valves. Unlike many IOGP specifications this is not an overlay with supplementary requirements based on an existing international standard, it is a standalone specification.

The specification applies to control valves used for throttling or on-off control applications and as the final element of a safety instrumented function where the valve is not considered to provide primary isolation. However, there are several valve applications that are excluded such as subsea control valves and chokes, topside choke valves and de-superheater control valves amongst others.

The purpose of the specification is to define a minimum common set of requirements for the procurement of control valves for application in the petroleum and natural gas industries. The specification is to be applied in conjunction with the supporting procurement data sheet, information requirements specification (IRS) and quality requirements specification (QRS).

All specification documents may be downloaded free of charge via the following link Control Valves - JIP33 (iogp-jip33.org)

Why is it Important?

The International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) is the voice of the global upstream industry, including majors such as BP, Chevron, Equinor, ExxonMobil and Shell amongst their members. It is intended that this specification will be adopted as standard by all IOGP members for control valve procurement activities, affecting the future supply of thousands of valves to the upstream oil and gas industry.

Therefore, it is important that BVAA members who are control valve manufacturers supplying the oil and gas industry review these specifications against their standard products in readiness for their adoption in future new project requirements.
