Hot Spot IOGP JIP33 Publication of S-739 Specification for Pressure Regulators

What is it?

IOGP JIP33 have released a new specification S-739 Specification for Pressure Regulators in services up to and including ASME Class 300. Unlike many IOGP specifications, this is not an overlay with supplementary requirements based on an existing international standard, it is a standalone specification. However, it does extensively reference existing ANSI/ISA, FCI and IEC specifications for regulators and control valves.

The specification applies to pressure regulators used in back pressure, pressure reducing, differential pressure and tank blanketing applications. However, there are several products that are excluded from the scope such as regulators used in hydraulic circuits, gas cylinders, pressure/vacuum relief, breathing air applications and pneumatic filter regulators.
The purpose of the specification is to define a minimum common set of requirements for the procurement of pressure regulators for application in the petroleum and natural gas industries. The specification is to be applied in conjunction with the supporting procurement data sheet, information requirements specification (IRS) and quality requirements specification (QRS).

All specification documents may be downloaded free of charge via the following Pressure Regulators - JIP33 (iogp-jip33.org)

Why is it Important?

The International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) is the voice of the global upstream industry, including majors such as BP, Chevron, Equinor, ExxonMobil and Shell amongst their members. It is intended that this specification will be adopted as standard by all IOGP members for pressure regulator procurement activities, affecting the future supply of thousands of valves to the upstream oil and gas industry.

Therefore, it is important that BVAA members who are pressure regulator manufacturers supplying the oil and gas industry review these specifications against their standard products in readiness for their adoption in future new project requirements.
