Howco Receives ‘Made in Sheffield’ Recognition

Howco, the leading global manufacturer and distributor of world class metals products, has been granted the prestigious ‘Made in Sheffield’ mark. With an illustrious history spanning more than four decades, Howco’s heritage is intrinsically tied to the northern industrial heartland and further cements its world class, worldwide ethos.

The Howco Group has been a stalwart of the Sheffield manufacturing scene for much of its history. It acquired the long-established Sheffield company 'Henry Whitham & Sons' at Carbrook Street in Sheffield in 2001, with Howco Sheffield still operating from that site today.

As an internationally recognised representation of quality and excellence, the ‘Made in Sheffield’ mark sets goods manufactured in the South Yorkshire city apart for both their point of origin and their maker’s manufacturing credentials. It has long been recognised as a producer city, with the first references to the production of cutting-edge products coming in 1297. Today, it’s globally recognised as a metals and metals products hub, with many world-class companies making groundbreaking contributions to sectors as diverse as materials technology and bioscience doing so from their Sheffield headquarters.

With its foundations in an Act of Parliament in 1624, the ‘Made in Sheffield’ designation is an instantly recognisable badge of honour and stamp of quality for any business located in the ‘S’ postcode area.

Andrew Marwood, Howco’s Director of Group Operations commented, “We’re proud to hold the ‘Made in Sheffield’ licence as an internationally recognised symbol of our commitment to quality and excellence with our extensive manufacturing and processing capabilities.”

The nickel alloys, stainless and low alloy steels that Howco supplies and processes are used in almost every corner of the planet, and in many of the world’s most demanding environments. Its high-performance alloys and components support the oil and gas, power generation and renewables industries.

The group’s investment in raw materials, manufacturing and processing facilities enables it to provide an outstanding and cost-effective solution to metals and components supply. In addition to the turnkey manufacturing of parts within its own plants, it also supplies semi-finished components and raw materials.

The business boasts a substantial inventory of material worldwide, has extensive CNC machining capacity, deep hole boring capabilities, a large heat treatment facility and a UKAS approved test laboratory in Sheffield.

In addition to its Sheffield facility, Howco has a further nine sites at strategic locations spread across six countries.
