KT Hydraulics: Bespoke Engineering Solutions for Critical Applications

Established globally, KT Hydraulics provides world class bespoke engineered solutions for critical applications, from initial design, manufacturing and testing through to installation and expert aftercare. These applications can be used in the oil, gas, marine, water, nuclear and process plant industries.

A special part of the KTH Engineering group is the design and manufacturing of hydraulic actuators. Being specialist in the Actuator market, offering the largest range of hydraulic actuators is the result of over 50 years’ experience in the design and manufacturing of such equipment and is the pinnacle of operational capability and power in a highly robust and ultra-compact body.

Project Spotlight - Offshore Lifting and Handling Company

Recently, KTH completed a large project for a well-known offshore lifting and handling company which included in the supply of 42 Single Acting, Fail Close, Hydraulic Actuators. These were mounted to Double Block and Bleed Ball Valves, working in collaboration with a Valve partner. This project required a tailored solution to reduce the overhang of the actuator spring cartridges to allow compact packaging of the valve and actuator assembly.

To achieve this feat, the spring was sized to suit this specific application, by increasing the diameter of the spring, the length was reduced resulting in the actuator packing the same punch in a much smaller size. The KSF100 actuator has plenty of spare capacity, with the actuator rated at a max operating pressure of 207 Bar but only requiring approximately 140 bar to operate the valve assembly.

Operating at a depth of 30 meters was no challenge for the KT Hydraulic actuators, when infact their actuators are rated to 300 meters as standard – with subsea versions available up to 3000 meters.

The project did pose the rather rare requirement that a submersible actuator also required an ATEX approved switchbox for valve position feedback.

Nearly all components were sourced and manufactured within a 15-mile radius of the KT Headquarters in Elland, helping to support and promote local business and industry.

Material traceability, inspection and test reports were all supplied as part of the project scope, these can be tailored to suit project requirements.

New Products Launching to market Autumn 2023

As a result of a recently completed specialist project, new challenges were faced and as such, KTH found a gap in the market and have developed a range of switchboxes to suit their actuators which will offer analogue and digital outputs and will have ATEX certification. Launching to the market Autumn 2023.
