BVAA Case Study - Clear benefits of on-site training

BVAA delivers series of adapted courses for client’s convenience
BVAA were recently commissioned by member Colson X-Cel Ltd to deliver a series of technical training courses for their staff. Discussions between the Colson’s senior management team and the BVAA lecturers allowed us to co-operatively discuss the company’s needs and wishes. This allowed the BVAA Team to develop a number of deliverables, including a PED training course, another on Hydrostatic Testing, and thirdly a bespoke Valve Awareness course split across two sessions.
Why two sessions?
Well, we needed firstly to address the basic requirements for the Colson team with a morning fundamentals session, and then additionally the more specialised and advanced needs of senior staff in the afternoon, with a focus on their highly specialised instrumentation and double block and bleed products.
The training preparation also included an on-site visit to tailor the Hydrostatic course to suit the company’s equipment and current practice.
Why Onsite?
There are numerous advantages – some are obvious, such as the convenience. But there’s also the zero travel and subsistence costs that would otherwise be incurred by traveling to our well-equipped training facility in Banbury. Onsite also allows a client to fit the course around the working schedule of the staff in the business, and in the case of hydrostatic testing and DBB valves, also their own equipment.
BVAA’s onsite Training is also a fixed fee, so the cost-per-delegate can be incredibly low.
There’s also the ripple effect of Team Building. Group training strengthens team dynamics and increases understanding of each other’s roles. Not to mention group knowledge retention.
Why BVAA?
Who better? Our professional trainers hold the highest technical qualifications and have vast experience of the valve and actuation industries. They can easily work with you to develop new and bespoke courses tailored to be specific to your needs and your equipment. We also have world class training materials, available across multiple platforms. BVAA also strongly promotes safe practices, and our training can drastically help improve safety in the workplace.
Chris Brown, Managing Director, Colson X-Cel Ltd
“At Colson X-Cel, we’re investing in our people to build the future — ensuring our team remains at the forefront of valve technology and engineering excellence. A key part of that is supporting new engineers as they enter the industry, accelerating their understanding of our products, applications, and the demanding environments they serve.
The BVAA’s on-site training has been invaluable in that process — enhancing our team’s technical knowledge in areas such as hydrostatic testing and pressure equipment compliance, while tailoring the content to our own processes and specialist double block and bleed valve designs.
It’s a great example of how focused, hands-on training can fast-track learning, strengthen our internal capability, and help develop the next generation of technical leaders within both Colson and the wider valve industry.”
BVAA’s CEO Rob Bartlett added, "My entire career has been advanced by excellent training and superb trainers, and it’s great to see Colson Valves investing so extensively in their teams. I want that for others too, and I know that BVAA can deliver the whole package.
To me, quality training is a complete no-brainer if you accept you have a duty of care to both your staff, and your business. Sadly, I have seen the distressing outcomes for some of those that don’t, and yet these can be so easily avoided with quality training."
