Hot Spot CEN standardisation work required over next 5 years

What is it?

The document BV002716 was circulated previously and details the CEN/CENELEC request from the European Commission to prepare 233 new and revised harmonised standards over the next five years. The large number of standards are considered necessary to adequately support the requirements of the PED/SPVD Regulations.

The standards involved are listed on the attached spreadsheet with 31 falling under the responsibility of CEN TC69 Industrial Valves as shown on the PEDSR sheet. This represents a significant requirement for the various working groups of TC69 covering all valve types.

It also represents an opportunity for BVAA members who are not already involved in valve standardisation work for their products to participate in rewriting and updating current product standards. Most meetings are conducted online or as hybrid events so participation in this work does not need to involve significant travel time.

If any members are interested in participating in CEN standards development then please contact the BVAA secretariat to discuss a nomination as a technical expert to the relevant BSI committee.

Why is it Important?

The EC requirement involves the revision of product standards on globe, gate, diaphragm, ball, and butterfly valves as well as control, check and safety valves and bursting discs as well as some of the basic design and test standards. This work must be completed in the next 5 years and provides the opportunity to introduce changes to these standards to ensure that they remain state of the art and applicable to BVAA member’s products.

Continuous Improvement - Did we miss anything?

Hot Spots are intended to alert members and provide a brief overview of new standards, activities or procedures that are being introduced in the industry. If there is key information missing that would be helpful, please let us know so that we can improve our future service.

Please Note: This Hotspot is for information purposes, and we invite comments from BVAA members only. Please also note that at time of publication ballots may be closed. For more information, please contact the Secretariat.

BVAA Members: Did you know we have a hotspot tab on the BVAA website? Head over to www.bvaa.org.uk/login-here.asp and log into the member only area. You then need to select ‘Hotspots’ for the latest.
