Fast Track Actuated Valve Solutions – T-T Flow & AUMA
Homes, businesses and other utility providers across the UK rely on access to clean water supply and wastewater management services every day. The water authorities that manage this infrastructure are under constant scrutiny for the sustainability and efficiency of their services, so keeping things flowing smoothly is paramount.
Breakdowns and prolonged interruptions to services can cause environmental damage, leave thousands without access to clean water and lead to increased project costs, so when components are required for maintenance, upgrades or emergency repair works, quick and accurate fulfilment of orders is vital.
The Problem
A large UK water authority has recently invested £2.5 million into improving the flow capacity of a wastewater treatment plant in their catchment area, aiming to reduce the number of overflows and environmental incidents the site experiences during extreme wet weather events.
Multiple actuated isolation and modulation valves were required as part of the works, needing to be delivered to site within a four-week window and ready for installation in order for the utility provider to meet their project deadline.
Having approached their approved framework valve supplier to find them unable to fulfil the order within the specified timeframe, the appointed framework contractor came to T-T Flow and AUMA Actuators Ltd for a speedy and reliable actuated valve package.
The Solution
T-T Flow worked in partnership with the water authority’s appointed framework contractor to configure and supply one DN80 Aquavault resilient seat gate valve and two eccentric plug valves, DN80 and DN150. With a comprehensive range of valve models and sizes kept at their headquarters in Cheshire, T-T's knowledgeable valve engineers were able to immediately source appropriate units for the job from stock.
To ensure suitability for immediate installation upon delivery at the treatment works, the actuators and valves needed to be fitted and function tested prior to their despatch. With the industry standard eight-to-ten-week lead time unfeasible for this project, T-T turned to actuator and gearbox manufacturer AUMA Actuators Ltd and their UK fast-track service, which offers order completion in as little as one week.
AUMA’s fast-track service can be applied to any product from its comprehensive UK stock of actuators, consisting of configurations that are commonly required across the industry – this included two types of actuators that met the water authority’s specifications and the needs of the job.
Within only four days of placing the order, AUMA supplied one SA Multi-Turn Actuator for the resilient seat gate valve and two SQ Quarter-Turn Actuators for the eccentric plug valves. All three actuators were also supplied with AC Actuator Controls that provide self-adapting control functions to prevent water hammer and time-stamped data-logging for valve performance analysis.
Once delivered to HQ, T-T's engineers programmed the actuators and pre-set their torque values before fitting them to the valves and carrying out comprehensive function testing to ensure their operation and eliminate any delays to installation once delivered on site.
Fast Solutions for a Fast-Moving World
Completing this order within the water authority’s time frame and specifications was made possible thanks to T-T's knowledgeable engineers and the large stock of valves at their disposal, coupled with AUMA’s UK fast-track service of actuators that are commonly required in the water supply industry.
