Hot Spot API 20F Corrosion-resistant Bolting Ballot

What is it?

API have released the 3rd edition draft of API 20F Corrosion-resistant Bolting for Use in the Petroleum and Natural Gas Industries for public review and API ballot. This standard identifies the requirements for manufacturing of corrosion resistant bolting as required by product standards such as API 6A or API 6D.

BVAA members could download and directly comment on the standard by following a link to the API website API | Balloting System using the ballot ID Number 6738, with a closing date of 28th July 2025.

If there was sufficient response from members, the BVAA would arrange a meeting to discuss, agree and consolidate comments prior to making a joint BVAA submission to the API ballot.

Why is it Important?

This 3rd edition draft of API 20F contains significant changes, many relating to qualification and control of manufacturing processes and raw material suppliers, including re-qualification requirements.

All comments submitted to the ballot will be considered by the API Task Group prior to publication of the specification, consequently it is important that BVAA members who manufacture, and supply corrosion resistant bolting take the opportunity to review the draft and comment. Valve manufacturers will also find it useful to review the draft as it may have implications on their existing approved supplier base for API bolting products.

Supersedes

This document will replace API 20F Edition 2 when published.
