Launch into Aerospace: Howco Builds on 40 Years of Experience

For more than 40 years, Howco has supplied high-performance alloys and precision engineered components into sectors where failure is not an option. Best known within oil and gas, chemical processing and wider energy markets, the company is now applying that experience to a new arena: aerospace.

The launch into aerospace follows an extensive programme of investment, accreditation and development designed to meet the stringent requirements of the aerospace supply chain. A key milestone has been the achievement of AS9100D accreditation at the company’s Sheffield site. The certification, recognised across the global aerospace industry, confirms that quality management systems, documentation and traceability processes meet the sector’s rigorous requirements.

World-class Expertise

Jane Savage, European Commercial Director, said, “Aerospace is a sector built on the highest quality, and for good reason: there is not a single moment throughout the production process when we are not aware that one small failure could have catastrophic consequences.

“These are some of the world’s most stringent requirements - but they are not new to us. Rather, they are an extension of the standards we have applied across critical industries for decades. My experience in aerospace and this expansion allows us to support aerospace customers with the same reliability and technical focus they have come to expect from us elsewhere.”

Scott Bulmer, newly appointed Business Development Manager, added “As part of Howco’s commitment to the sector, we will be exhibiting at the Farnborough International Airshow in July to engage with OEMs, Tier suppliers and industry partners. I’m very excited for the years ahead.”

A Natural Extension

In terms of materials, the transition is less of a leap and more of a continuation. Howco holds extensive inventories of nickel alloys, stainless and speciality grades including Alloy 625 and Alloy 718 that are fully-compliant to aerospace specifications.

The wider market context also makes the move timely. Order books across the aerospace industry remain substantial, with more than 18,000 aircraft on backlog at the close of 2024 and forecasts suggesting demand for around 43,000 additional aircraft over the next twenty years.

With the backing of Sumitomo Corporation and established operations covering distribution, processing and manufacturing across several regions, Howco is perfectly placed to offer the consistency and long-term commitment the aerospace sector is seeking.
