AMB Co. Ltd – Further investment as Defence & Nuclear projects continue to grow

It’s been a very productive start to the year for one of the UK’s leading suppliers of hardfaced components, AMB Co. Ltd.  However, the good news doesn’t just stop with the Sheffield-based precision engineer’s burgeoning order book.  They have also been busy with their investment plans as their interest in the Defence and Nuclear industries gathers pace.

Andrew Wellwood, Business Development Director, explains:

“Despite the ongoing geopolitical issues, we’ve started this year extremely positively, with an influx of work that should see us land a great Q1 and Q2, from an order intake perspective.  In truth, it’s probably no surprise that this has coincided with our Defence and Nuclear project work, and as a result, has pushed forward some of our plans for these sectors.”

“We’ve made significant investment in equipment in the machine shop and welding department; installing a brand-new CNC machine, purchasing two manipulators for some of the larger components we’re working on in these sectors, which increases the capacity in our welding department.  We’re also looking at a new PTA plant, but that wouldn’t be likely to arrive until late 2027.”

“We’ve also had a recruitment drive on the shopfloor, and following on from two excellent machinists late last year, we’ve just employed an experienced welding operative, with hopes of securing another one over the course of the summer.  We’re also exploring the possibility of further apprentices.”

“Whilst these are all very much physical and tangible investments, there are also many more improvements being made further behind the scenes here at AMB Co. Ltd.  We’re currently in the process of implementing a new cloud-based system, which give us more security and flexibility.  This coincides with our plans for gaining Cyber Essentials status, which is imperative as our involvement in the Defence sector grows.”

“We announced last year that we’d been accepted on to the BSI pilot scheme for BS EN ISO 19443, and we’re still on course to become one of the very first companies to gain this accreditation with BSI.  In fact, I’m hoping it will all be completed by the time you’re reading this!”
