When it comes to industrial valves and pumps, safety isn’t optional - it’s essential.

These components operate under extreme pressures in industries ranging from oil and gas to nuclear power. Ensuring they perform flawlessly requires rigorous testing and, just as importantly, the right knowledge behind the process.

That’s where the BVAA Safe Effective Hydrostatic Testing Course comes in. Unlike traditional training that focuses on “how” to test, this program dives into the “why” - explaining the science, safety, and best practices that underpin hydrostatic testing.

Training Where It Matters Most

Delivered on-site, the course adapts to each company’s existing setup. This approach makes learning practical and relevant, allowing teams to review their own processes and identify improvements without leaving their workplace.

Recently, BVAA ran two sessions at Trillium Flow Services’ aftermarket centre in Alloa, Scotland, where technicians service a wide range of valves and pumps for industries including water, oil and gas, nuclear power, and defence. The diversity of equipment highlighted the need for flexible testing systems, stringent safety procedures, and deep expertise.

“The training was excellent; it gave us all a very good insight into the dos and don’ts of pressure testing and the theory behind it all. Peter presented it very thoroughly and explained everything very well.  Everyone who attended took away some great information.”  Phil Russell, Workshop Manager & Actuator Technical Supervisor, Trillium Flow Technologies.

Why Hydrostatic Testing Is Critical

Hydrostatic pressure testing pushes valves to their limits - the highest pressure they’ll ever experience.  It’s inherently hazardous, which is why proper safety protocols and equipment are non-negotiable. Whether testing brand-new products or refurbished legacy valves, the goal is the same: prove integrity and performance before deployment.

Beyond Compliance: Driving Improvement

Feedback from participants is clear: the course helps teams spot opportunities to make testing more efficient and reliable.  It also reinforces the importance of comparing current methods with industry best practice, ensuring continuous improvement in a rapidly evolving sector.

The Bigger Picture

As valve applications grow more complex, so must the knowledge of those who test them. BVAA’s training doesn’t just teach - it empowers technicians to think critically, innovate, and keep the wheels of industry turning safely.
