Six Decades of Engineering Excellence: Orseal’s Journey from the MOD to Global Flow Control

As the industry gathers for IVS Bergamo and CHEMUK 2026, Orseal reflects on a legacy that began in 1961. Our story started with a singular focus on the most demanding environments on earth: the high-pressure systems of the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD).

The Naval Foundation (1961–Present)

Orseal’s reputation for reliability was forged in the hulls of Royal Navy Frigates, Fighting Ships, and Submarines. Supplying safety-critical valves for the MOD required a level of precision and material integrity that few could match.

By the mid-1980s, Orseal began a strategic diversification, bringing that "submarine-grade" engineering philosophy to the broader industrial market. Today, that naval heritage lives on in every valve we supply, ensuring that whether a component is destined for a deep-sea floor or a launchpad, it is built to survive.

The Gold Standard for Oxygen Service

A key pillar of Orseal’s modern success is well over 30-year working with the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). In the steel industry, oxygen-service valves carry inherent dangers; the wrong material choice can lead to catastrophic fires.

For the ISP West Bengal modernisation, Orseal’s Special Projects Division supplied 20" FB flanged valves in Monel. These trunnion-mounted units, suitable for temperatures up to 200°C, underwent a rigorous ultra-cleaning process to ensure zero contamination—providing peace of mind for a plant now producing 2.5 million tonnes per year.

A Global Portfolio of High-Stakes Projects

Orseal’s reach is now truly global, with a portfolio that spans every major energy and infrastructure sector:

  • Aerospace: Proudly supporting the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) with mission-critical precision components.
  • Renewable Energy & Gas Extraction: In Rwanda, Orseal supplied a complete valve package for the Lake Kivu project, a world-first initiative to extract methane gas from deep-water reserves.
  • Offshore & Marine: Active across the Middle East for ZADCO and Habshan, as well as supplying multiple complex project packages for Petrobras FPSO vessels.
  • Desalination: Executing numerous high-volume orders for global water infrastructure, where corrosion resistance is paramount.

Looking Ahead

From our 1961 origins to our current work with the space and renewable sectors, Orseal remains committed to the BVAA community and the pursuit of engineering excellence. We look forward to discussing these global milestones. Please contact Champak@orseal.com - Mobile: 07818 004254.
