Hot Spot Uk Government Consultation on Product Safety Framework

What is it?
The UK Government has opened a consultation with businesses and other interested stakeholders on a new, modernised and enhanced core safety framework. Following the recent Product Safety Review the Government intends to update the existing product safety framework that dates from 2005 to bring it into line with current supply chain practices and products.
BVAA members supply products into a safety regulated environment that is controlled and enforced by the existing framework surrounding UKCA and CE marking requirements; therefore, any changes are likely to specifically affect their products and business processes. Consequently, it is important that the pressure equipment industry participates in this consultation to ensure that their views and requirements are understood.
Further information on the consultation can be accessed online by following these links:
The consultation closes on 23rd June 2026.
Why is it Important?
Two consultations relevant to BVAA members are being conducted in parallel as follows:
1. New product safety framework consultation- Collecting views on new measures to potentially strengthen protections for consumers, clamp down on unscrupulous sellers, and clarify business responsibilities, to ensure the UK’s regulatory system is fit for the future. The changes are also aimed at simplifying the system and sweeping away unnecessary administrative burdens on businesses.
2. Uk product regulation market surveillance and enforcement consultation- Seeking views on proposed reforms intended to consolidate enforcement powers, enable earlier intervention for the authorities, introduce civil monetary penalties as an alternative to criminal prosecution, and ensure the system meets the challenges of modern supply chains and emerging technologies.
The online consultations contain simple questions that seek opinions on the new proposals, they do not require any detailed data input. The most likely respondents amongst BVAA members would be those managers and executives responsible for product compliance or quality management.
