Hot Spot ISO CD 21011 Cryogenic Vessels-Valves for Cryogenic Service Ballot

What is it?
The attached committee draft revision of ISO 21011:2008 Cryogenic Vessels-Valves for Cryogenic Service has now been issued for CD enquiry by ISO/TC220.
The document specifies the requirements for the design, manufacture and testing of valves for a rated temperature of −40 °C and below for operation with cryogenic fluids in addition to operation at temperatures from ambient to cryogenic. It applies to all types of cryogenic valves, including vacuum jacketed cryogenic valves up to size DN 200. This document can be used as guidance for larger size valves. This document is not applicable to pressure relief valves covered by ISO 21013-1.
A previous draft revision of ISO 21011 was cancelled after failing final ballot in 2023 and this CD document is the response to the comments expressed at that ballot. ISO/TC153 has a liaison with ISO/TC220 and so is invited to comment in this CD enquiry.
BVAA members were asked if they had any comments on this document, to forward them to the BVAA secretariat by 29/5/26 so that they could be included in the response to BSI and forwarded to ISO/TC153.
Why is it Important?
This international application standard specifies requirements for the design, materials, marking and testing of valves for cryogenic service. This revision of the standard extends the scope to up to DN200 and contains revisions/additions to type approval tests, including revised leakage rates.
It has also been agreed by CEN TC 268 that under the Vienna agreement this standard will replace EN 1626:2008 with ISO leading the development of the standard. Therefore, this revision of EN ISO 21011 is intended to be a harmonised standard including an Annex ZA that satisfies some of the requirements of the PED.
If you are involved in the design and manufacture of cryogenic valves this draft standard contains requirements that may directly affect your products and business both in Europe and internationally.
