Hot Spot - IEC 60534-4 2021 Industrial Process Control Valves - Inspection and routine testing - Published

What is it?

IEC has revised part 4 of its series of industrial process control valve standards. IEC 60534-4 2021 covers inspection and routine testing and replaces the previous edition which was published in 2006.

The new edition contains the following significant changes:

▪ Removed specific details about hydrostatic test and states that it shall be performed according to the applicable valve design code

▪ Includes a mandatory test for valve packing

▪ Includes evidence limits of reduced differential pressure seat leakage test procedure

▪ Introduce low temperature seat leakage test details

▪ Extend dimensional range for leakage class VI to less than 25 mm and over 400 mm seat diameter

▪ Include stroking time tests.

IEC 60534-4:2021 is now available for purchase. The EN version of the same standard has completed the parallel voting process and is also being prepared for publication early in 2022.

Why is it Important?

The IEC 60534 series of process control valve standards are widely used and specified within the control valve industry. This latest edition includes some significant changes to frequently performed production testing and may require that manufacturers review their internal testing procedures in order to maintain compliance.

This standard replaces IEC 60534-4:2006.
