Hot Spot EN 558:2022 Face-to-face and Centre-to-face Dimensions of Metal Valves for use in Flanged Pipe Systems - PN and Class Designated Valves Published

What is it?
The latest edition of EN 558 has now been published by CEN and is available to purchase. This standard specifies the face-to-face (FTF) and centre-to-face (CTF) dimensions for PN and Class designated metal valves used in flanged pipe systems.

The range of sizes and pressure designations to be covered by the updated standard is:

• DN10 to DN2000
• Class 125 to Class 2500
• PN2.5 to PN400

The presentation format of the tabular data has been revised when compared to the previous 2017 edition. The main changes in content in this edition are the inclusion of 4 new basic series of globe and wafer butterfly valves. Twenty three valve series that are considered to be special have been removed from the basic series tables and placed in a new Appendix C in an attempt to simplify the data tables.

Why is it Important?
It is important, as far as possible, to reduce the amount of variation amongst similar valve designs to promote increased standardisation and allow interchangeability. EN 558 is referenced by many current EN product standards and this revision ensures that it is up to date.

The equivalent standard ISO 5752 which also covers face-to-face and centre to face dimensions has also recently been revised. This revision of EN558 ensures that a degree of consistency between the two standards is retained.

It should be noted that EN 558 contains control valves in its scope, but ISO 5752 does not, making this an important reference standard for control valve dimensions.

Supersedes
This edition supersedes EN 558:2017.
