Hot Spot IOGP JIP33 Revise S-730 Flanged Steel PRV Specification

What is it?
IOGP JIP 33 have published a heavily revised edition of S-730J v2 Flanged steel pressure-relief valves (API 526). This overlay specification is based on the latest edition of API 526 and follows
the clause structure of the parent standard. It has been extensively revised compared to version 1 of S-730 and now includes references to ASME XIII Rules for overpressure protection 2023. The layout change and extensive revisions mean that this edition should be treated as a completely new specification.
The specification is available free of charge and can be downloaded from the specification library of the IOGP JIP 33 website.
Why is it Important?
The International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) is the voice of the global upstream industry with 83 members including the 12 major global operators. JIP33 is an IOGP joint industry project aimed at industry wide standardisation and cost reduction of the equipment supply chain.
Many significant changes have been made to the specification which will effect manufacturers products. For example, in areas such as product testing and performance, revised re-seat and shop leakage test performance requirements have been specified. Version 2 also introduces new requirements specifying the use of non-flowing pilot valves, one piece spindles and lifting levers.
This revised specification will be adopted as standard by IOGP members, affecting the future supply of thousands of pressure relief valves. Therefore, it is important that BVAA members who manufacture pressure relief valves to API 526 review the specification to ensure that their products can comply with the these revised requirements.
Supersedes
The specification supersedes and replaces S-730 v1 Supplementary specification to API Standard 526 flanged steel pressure-relief valves 2021 which is withdrawn.
